Facebook & MySpace
Do you have Facebook and/or MySpace? If so, does the family you work for know you’re on a social website? How would you feel if you knew they were looking you up online? Do you have anything on there you wouldn’t want them seeing? I think more often than not, employers are looking up their potential and current employees online. Mine found me on Facebook and she wanted to add me as a friend. Yeah, I don’t think so! I think there should be boundaries and that is definitely one. It's not that I have anything to hide, but my Facebook has my personal thoughts, pictures and friends on it. Why would I want my boss to be a part of that? What about you? Would you or do you have your employer on your friends list? If you have added your boss to your Facebook or MySpace, has it turned out to be a positive or negative experience? If you have denied your boss' friend request, did your relationship change as a result?

i have an ex boss of mine who is now my friend on my facebook. but she is truly my friend. the kids i work with presently friended me and i thought about adding them...but the more i thought about it, the more complicated it got. what if i wanted my status to say, "work sucks!"? that was not gonna fly. since then, i have put my settings on private so that if my boss or future potential bosses go looking, they don't have access to my friend comments or anything else on my profile. it's too much. i shouldn't be judged for my social life.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I think it's important to keep your social life private. Even though your ex boss is no longer your boss, do you ever wonder what she would think if you were to post "Work sucks" or something similar? I would be worried she would wonder what you said about her family when you worked with them know what I mean? Or do you have such a close friendship now that she already knows the deal? lol
ReplyDeletei have a facebook and my current boss is my FB friend. my oldest 2 kids and their friends are all on it as well but i draw the line at friending those under 18.
ReplyDeletei don't mind at all having my boss as an FB friend, i don't ever put anything on my FB that would be questionable anyway, and basically everything that's on there i tell her about in person, as we have a really open relationship, she's very much more like a friend than a boss. (i'm extremely lucky, i know!)
